Sweets - Gulab Jamuns

Sweets - Gulab Jamuns

It's Saturday - The day of holiday and weekend and I am very happy to have some of the spectacular and wonderful people around me. I guess very few people are lucky enough to get it everything. But back to my story.

As you know I am fond of cooking over the weekend, and in some of my last posts I showed off my passion for hobby cooking.

I am not really show-off kind of guy, but I like to write about my hobby and liking over social network

When I came back from India last week, I brought bunch of spices and raw food with me. Just to save me some time cooking for at least next few days. This includes, but not limited to,

  • Maggie packets
  • Ready to cook packets
  • Readymade masalas
  • Authentic spices
  • Gulab jamun mix

Today I am going to talk about yes, Gulab jamun mix and how I prepared jamuns at home in just 30 minutes. If you got sweet tooth like me, I am sure you will be fascinated too.

I had a packet of Chitale's Gulab Jamun mix. The full recipe was printed on it.

I am not going to bore you with all those details, but you can find Full recipe for Gulab Jamun mix on YouTube

To make a Sugar syrup, take 1 cup or sugar and same amount of water. Boil this mixture in a steel pot. Add cardamom and saffron while the mixture is boiling. Keep it aside and deep the fried Gulab Jamuns in it once ready to it

Here are some of the snaps of Jamuns I prepared this morning. For design purpose I also added pistachios and coated it with sugar sprinkles. Hope it looks good like that,

I made total of 7 Gulab Jamuns. I still have 3/4 jamun mix left. I will give it a shot and make it in even better shape next week.

Yes, you can get a packet of ready made gulab jamuns in any Indian grocery store here in United States. But it will cost you anywhere between $10-15. I had brought this instant mix from India for less than a dollar. Including gas, oil for frying, sugar syrup and decoration material it still cost me lass than a $2. Worth of it!
